ZYPREXA_ dunno, I just thought of a friend who just finished the Zyprexa trial, and she was wondering how he was getting on. He was on two different antipsychotics for several months before stopping the medication in June of 2014. He had a couple of weeks of total schizophrenia treatment and the dose was about 50 milligrams per day. On one of his last days he took 10 mg of risperidone, while the second day he took 10 mg of lurasidone. That day he took 10 mg of risperidone and his psychotic symptoms were so severe it felt like he had a head injury. So he had to take two different antipsychotic medications. The third day, he took 10 mg of lurasidone and his psychotic symptoms were so severe it felt like he had a head injury. The only difference between those two medications is the dose. So, I just thought of a question.
The question is, which one will work better for me? If he is getting the best results from each antipsychotic, will it be better? I don't know, but I'm hoping someone knows this...

Can someone explain why my psychiatrist didn't include this? It's very rare for a psychiatrist to include a medication in their list of medications they are listed on the prescribing information sheet, but I know that it's very common. I know how common it is for antidepressants to cause drowsiness. I can tell you from experience that most people who get drowsiness, such as those on lithium, are very upset with their lithium dose. In the case of lithium, the amount you get depends on how you respond to it. The amount of lithium you get depends on how the dosage is set at. If you have a 10 milligram dose of lithium, you would get an effective dosage of 25 milligrams per day. If you have a 10 milligram dose of risperidone, you would get a 100 milligram dosage of risperidone. If you have a 50 milligram dose of risperidone, you would get a 200 milligram dosage of risperidone. It's the same dosage that is prescribed for me, and I know how difficult it is to get a 50 milligram dosage. I know from experience that a high dosage is very important in the long run. I want to be clear here...My psychiatrist didn't mention the high dosage. She did mention that you would have to take the medication several times before she even checked if it worked. I don't think she was even talking about how much you need to be on. I think she was just trying to give the medication a chance. She did mention that lithium can cause drowsiness. The only other side effect she listed was a headache. The only other side effect that I would say was a bit of a head shake. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. I would definitely talk to your psychiatrist about that, but I don't think there is much information on this side effect. She probably would be able to provide you with an information sheet if you want to have a conversation. In the meantime, I'm happy to have you here for a conversation, as I have a lot of experience in this area and would love to help.
Thanks for your time. I'll talk to your psychiatrist and see what they have to offer. I can't wait to see what the results will be!
Good luck! One more question - what is risperidone? Does it work better in people with schizophrenia?
My doctor didn't tell me this question because I'm not sure what she meant. I know how difficult it is to get antipsychotic medications. My doctor put me on risperidone 5 mg. I took it once a day for several weeks, and then I was back on it for almost the next four years. I think it is because of the way antipsychotics work. I don't know how well they work in people with schizophrenia, but I do know that it does cause drowsiness.Patients prescribed Zyprexa should be monitored for any signs of drug interactions, such as nausea, dizziness, or lightheadedness.
